Multifandom Trading Post

So, PaBurke and I have been kicking an idea around, and we would like to hear some opinions from y'all.

We're debating starting a multifandom trading post, fanwork to fanwork. For instance, I, FaithDaria, would love to see a Supernatural fanvid about John Winchester set to 'Casting Crowns' song 'Slow Fade.' I would be willing to write 5000 words for the prompt of the vidders choosing, providing that the vidder stays within the boundaries of what I can write (this would mean no slash, no anime, no Harry Potter).

Can y'all please take this poll and let us know what you think?

Poll #1755696 Multifandom Trading Post

Would you be willing to contribute to such a thing?

Maybe, as time permits

Would you be willing to spread the news about this community?

Do you think we should allow the exchange of physical fanworks? For example, I would be willing to make someone a Jedi costume for three fanvids or 15-20K of a story.

That makes me uncomfortable.
That fills me with joy!

How do you think it should be policed?

I have no idea
I have ideas, and I'll give them in the comments!

What do you think is a reasonable exchange, fanwork to fanwork?

... Okay - did not really have much of an idea... only that both parts should be satisfied and that any 'quick work' should either be redone... or the person making it get a 'does shoddy work'... or something...

I'm kind of leaning toward a couple of moderators who page through the requests and make sure that they've been filled, maybe also using tags to communicate whether something has been filled on both ends.

As long as moderators have abilities to change tags, that should work -- thus, tag of an individual request would change from open to filled or something...

Might need to consider having all the posts locked, as not sure if this sort of thing would constitute payment legally. Not to mention need to encourage that if any of the members post fanvids given the us legislature's movement to crack down on ip violations (though hopefully that will only go so far as streamers, but still)

Hmm. I think since it's just trading gifts, mostly it can skate past. It's kind of like a very open fic and art exchange, which is completely fine and legal. It's where the physical fanworks get involved that it gets dicey.

I'm not sure what's going on with the ip violation thing, could you explain?

past couple of weeks have had news of congress moving to make streaming of copyrighted works into a felony instead of a misdemeanor. I haven't followed it too closely to figure out the particulars, but...yeah.

So, that would include all fanvids made to an actual song? Is it fanvids, or is it the song? I am still a little unclear.

what I remember reading, it's supported by both mpaa and riaa, so i'd assume copyrighted material period. But like I said, I haven't done enough research to determine the exact specifics (and don't have law experience), it's just something that's been pinging on my radar from the occassional ars technica article.

Found one for you:

Sorry to have bothered you with it - feel free to delete the thread if you prefer.

No, it's good. I wanted to know these things. That's more of a 'wait and see' thing, to see how strict they're going to be about the use of songs for such things.
