Learning How To Fly Drabbles

Learning How to Fly Drabbles
Various Short Stories that fit into the Learning How to Fly ‘Verse
Either requested by reviewers or things that interrupted the flow of the Big Bang.

Boot Camp:
100 Words

Boot camp at Paris Island had been a cinch.

Ignoring the sand mites that got everywhere.

The thirteen weeks had been easier than Dean’s school ‘vacations’ and many jobs. Dad had always pushed them more when they didn’t have homework. Dean had learned most of the Marines’ history from his father so even that ‘classroom’ time didn’t inflict pressure on Dean. He felt kinda guilty for scoring the highest on the physical tests and thus being recognized at the graduation ceremony.

Jack came to the graduation ceremony and took him out for a drink afterwards.

Dean still missed his Dad.

Demolitions Training:
100 Words

The best way to describe Demolitions Training was AWESOME. With caps-lock and italics and everything. Dean had fun and he made friends. Seriously, only the deranged played with things that went boom.

He was among the like-minded. Everyone had made a Molotov cocktail and a good number had found a way to blow up a car or two.

But Dean was the only one that had previously brought down a three-story building (harpy infestation). The coolest part was that Dean had done it (almost) right. He had missed only one support beam.

Dean learned and plotted more personal explosive experiments.

Gate Training:
100 Words

General Jack O’Neill was a smug bastard.

Dean knew that Jack had to have some sort of phenomenal and crazy thing happening in his mountain to accept vampires and ghosts so well. He thought that maybe aliens had come to Earth.

Never had Dean imagined that Earth had a way to the aliens.

Jack had come to the SGC to watch newbies get the Stargate briefing. Dean wasn’t sure if he did it for every new group or if Dean was just special.

Either way, Dean couldn’t stop his jaw from dropping the first time he had seen the whoosh.

SGC Demolitions Training:
100 Words

One of Dean’s first SGC courses was demolitions. Unexpected, since he had just finished all the Marines had to offer. It turned out that the SGC knew new stuff that could go boom or could go BOOM.

It was intimidating; Dean couldn’t compete with a colonel that really, truly had blown up an entire solar system. The course was more informational and less fun than the last one.

The instructor was pretty though, if you went for the older, hot, blonde type.

Then Dean heard about Jack and Carter and set the timer on an entirely different kind of explosion.

The Daedalus:
100 Words

Hell. Pure Hell.

The only upside to it was that Pacosky proved that he made a good friend and not just a teammate/drinking/going to the strip club buddy. Pacosky kept Dean occupied. He knew when all ship wide events or Marine events were happening. He would slip Dean a mickey if he got too weirded out.

But the favorite game they played was going through the SGA reports and finding where and how Dean would have added explosives to mission. The first year of Atlantis would have been a hell of a lot different if Team 4 had been there.

The Girl
100 Words

He was not dating. He was not courting (like he knew how). He was not flirting.

He was being neighborly.

It was like finding a single mother with her car broken down on the side of the road with two crying kids in the car. (After checking to make sure they were all human) Dean always tried to help such people. The heartfelt gratitude that those stranded people gave Dean felt much like the burbling joy injected straight into his head.

Atlantis really, really liked when things were fixed only because they were broken and not because they were needed.

Why thank you! I use drabbles to kick my muse in the butt. I can write them on my work breaks when life gets crazy. I am definitely working on more.

Oooh, awesome drabbles! I am glad the bunnies attacked you, the Atlantis one was very touching... I bet the city had just been waiting to Dean to get the gene therapy so she could reward him!

Demolitions training was hilairous, the little aside about like minded people makes me wonder how the training facilities fared after his class had been around!

Pacosky and Dean's game of adding explosions to mission reports was truly great, it would make an interesting addition to the Atlantis gazette...

most of these were YOUR fault and I was hoping that you'd see them and enjoy.

And now you just fed another plot bunny. We'll see how long it takes for this one to become full grown...
